My name is Kevin Gross and I was in rehab here in October of 2017 and I had a great experience. Yes drugs do get in to rehab but that is EVERY rehab not just this place. Remember, not everyone is in rehab to actually get clean. Some go to dodge jail time or to make family happy. But if you can't say no to the little bit of drugs here then you will never be able to say no on the streets. The staff were kind, thoughtful, considerate of personal issues and most of them are recovering addict's themselves. The food was great the facility was clean and because of the tools they were able to arm me with I am coming up on a year clean and sober. I want to say thank you to all the staff for being so attentive, kind, and knowledgeable. For the people who don't give this place 5 stars is because they were not in it to beat the addiction. Remember, YOU GET OUT OF IT WHAT YOU OUT INTO IT so if you didn't gain anything from it then most likely it's because you didn't put the right effort into it. So don't rate it a bad place if you know you didn't try because you are giving a false rating based on false intentions. THANK YOU GALAX STAFF!! Especially (KASEY) my counselor for helping me so much!!!!

I went here the summer of 2016 and I am coming up on 2 years clean. This is not a vacation for all of you leaving reviews of how you were not cared for. The classes were great, food was great and getting into a routine definitely helped me. To each their own but most of y'all are whining making it sound like this place is a daycare and you need to be watched and taken care of 24/7. No. Its where you learn to get your life back and take care of yourself and cope with your feelings and what each new day brings you.

This place changed my life! The fellowship is amazing, the meetings are amazing, and people even come from the outside to the AA/NA meetings and give praise to the place. Yes, it is COED and the less serious addicts do flirt with the more attractive females, but that's anywhere you place young men or MEN in General! I have to say I came here once back in Feb 2017, and relapsed after months of sobriety. I was clean for 6 years before my Jan 2017 relapse. The facility rules and regulations have changed so much it was like a different world! New CEO has doors locked at 10pm, Lights Out at 11pm, and the females and males are not allowed to spend much time together without being reprimanded. I agreed with everything this place is trying to do, which helps weed out the less serious people that come here on their PARENTS dime and do not care anything about recovery. One patient had brought in pills and was falling asleep during classes, her room was searched and the substance found, she was kicked out immediately and cops were called. These people CARE! They can't catch all the BS that comes through the door! The jail I came from had drugs for instance! It's YOUR CHOICE whether you tell your counselor you want to leave on Methadone or Subutex Maintenance, if your kid or spouse tells you that they were put on it unknowingly or pressured, they are lying! The counselors DO NOT encourage Maintenance, they all want to see you clean! Most counselors were gone, but Trish and Casey were still there and they are great. Lauren, Angie, Jennifer, Tina, Rhonda and Lisa are all amazing techs! They are basically the OFFICERS who keep you straight, check in on you, do your BP tests and make sure you abide by the rules. They don't get paid enough in the first place!! I wish I could tell you that this place has the cure for all of your addiction problems, but the truth is this facility knows about your problem(s) and deals with them everyday! The problem isn't the facility, it's the people who want all the ATTENTION and make it all about THEM because addicts are selfish people, I've been one for over 10 years! The difference now is, I can admit to myself and to others the exact nature of my wrongs. Thank you Galax for putting up with the nonsense and bad reviews from unworthy people who believe the petty lies of their "perfect" children.

This is not a daycare. This is not a hotel. You are not on vacation. Your counselors are there to guide you not babysit you. If you aren't willing to do the work, which is very very hard I know because I did it, then you aren't ready to start recovery. I was terrified to go here and didn't know what to expect and yes I was very physically sick and didn't want to do anything at first and was threatened to get kicked out because of it. I forced myself to get moving and I flourished. I relapsed when I got home fairly quickly through my own fault. Staff, including medical, counselors, admissions, and cafeteria were all welcoming and caring. If anything at times I was shown tough love, which I needed. No one can make you do anything and as my counselor said many times those doors are not locked you can leave at any time. I loved it there and only think back on my time there fondly. I hope the negative reviews do not discourage someone who is looking for help from going here.

A family member received treatment here. If you are really ready to make a change and embrace the process it is awesome. Staff are caring and knowledgeable. They have enough clinical support to address dual diagnosis. The environment has a positive vibe and the food is good! The family sessions on visiting day have been helpful to me. I have seen comments about drugs use there...If you still want to use you will find drugs anywhere that is not a lock down facility. If you are ready to do what it takes for a new life the staff will help you.

Went here for drug use that had taken over my life. Just got home. It was a long few weeks. The staff are very concerned for the patients. I felt safe and they even sent out a patient who was trying to abuse medicine while there because they were harming the other patients progress. Getting over meth and opioids is not pretty. It hurts. But they were there to help and did. Thank you for giving me another chance. If you want a spa this is not for you but if you want recovery go.

You get out of it what you put into it. My husband needed help and he got it at this facility. I work at a jail and I know that people improve when they are really committed to improving, and no one and no program can do it for them. There will be people at any of these facilities who see the negative because they are looking through negativity. Then there are people who really want to get well, and this facility makes it possible. I am grateful to them.

My name is Mark Vance. I was there last year for alcohol. I was there for 30 days. I needed help and they gave me help. The facility was clean and the staff was excellent. I went to every class and had notes from every class.my coubselor was great. And I would recommend this facility to anyone. The food was excellent. I relapsed and now am starting over with the 12 steps. Thank you life center of Galax for giving me the strength and tools I need to continue with my life. You have to progress not recess. Thank You.

I dreaded going into this program at first, but I'm so glad I did stick through it. It was an incredibly humbling experience, and having been to a few other treatment centers in the past, I can whole-heartedly say that I learned significantly more at Galax than I did at other treatment centers. I was in the Wolf's Edge program (men aged 18-25) and really enjoyed it. The therapists were excellent, the staff was beyond helpful, and most everyone was very knowledgeable. They also kept things real with you and where you stood in your recovery. Expectations are explained to you whenever you first arrive at Galax. If you live up to those simple expectations, you will succeed here and, most importantly, you will recover. I'll forever be grateful for what I took away from this treatment center.

My son was a patient at this facility. He went voluntarily to treatment. For the most part, my son had a good experience. The young men's treatment program (Wolf Lair) worked very well for my son. The young men are able to focus on their own issues without being distracted by female patients, because they have many groups that are just for young men. That young's men program has created a culture of trust and safety for the young men to express themselves that my son clearly valued, and talked about a lot. My son told me that they took care of each other, and got really close. The facility is not necessarily as promised. The facility is old and not very well-maintained. There is not much outdoor recreation as promised on the website. My son said the food was pretty good. The biggest issue was that the staff did not handle my son's exit from treatment very well at all. He woke up at the 21 day mark, not realizing that he would be exited on that day, and not having been told the day before, to be told that he had to leave. We were given no notice as a family, and I had to leave work immediately to pick him up (a 6 hour round trip from our town). He was very upset after leaving, and I hope that it will not have a negative effect on his recovery.

This place will change your life. Ignore the negatives on here and take the chance to discover who YOU really are. Before treatment I was a drunk and suicidal. 28 days later I'm inspired again and very active in my recovery with meetings 90/90 and a great sponsor. The counselors here are some of the kindest and toughest I've ever met because they really want you to stay alive and stay clean and sober. The food there is great, I gained 10 pounds and the cooks are so sweet. As in any rehab program you're gonna find the bad apples who just aren't ready to change yet and love to cause problems. I'll say this, if you go to your classes and you do what you are supposed to do then you will avoid much of the drama and crazy stuff that goes on (because you're too busy recovering) The nurses care very much about the patients and many were sad to see me go. The activities are great and the coordinators for recreational things do such a great job of making sure you get out and have fun and experience sober life. If you're a Christian there is also a strong program for you as well and if you're not there's a solid spiritually based program too. I can't say enough about this place, please just go and check in and give it a try, if you don't like it then leave but don't let these reviews scare you away. Every person that I met that did the work also went through profound transformation, and they really CARE about your after care steps! If anyone from the center reads this I love you and thank you for such an amazing treatment experience!
